17-year-old rams scooter into divider in Dima Hasao, dies
Silchar: A 17-year-old died in a road accident at Jatinga in Dima Hasao district on Monday, just two days after an accident in the hills district that claimed three lives and left four others injured.Police sources said the deceased, identified as Sanskar Karki alias Sahil from Haflong, was returning from a picnic when the scooter he was riding hit a divider in Jatinga, about 5 km from Haflong town.

Other youths who were returning from the same picnic on separate two-wheelers rushed to his aid and took him to Haflong civil hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The body was later sent for an autopsy at the same hospital.The incident comes close on the heels of another accident on Saturday night, in which, three persons were killed and four others injured after a passenger van lost control and plunged into a gorge along the New Haflong approach road. The injured are undergoing treatment at Haflong civil hospital, officials said.Meanwhile, personnel of Assam Rifles stationed in Dima Hasao extended humanitarian assistance to those injured in Saturday’s accident. On Sunday, Assam Rifles personnel, along with representatives of AROH Society, visited the injured victims at Haflong civil hospital.
