Gurgaon: A 19-year-old man died after jumping into the tank of a sewage water treatment plant in the IMT Manesar area on Saturday afternoon.
Though the exact sequence of events is being examined, police said no foul play has emerged. Family members told investigators that Shivam was struggling with mental health issues and would occasionally lose his composure. “They also said there was no dispute with anyone prior to the incident,” an officer said.
Shivam, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was working at a private company in the industrial area. Police received the information around 2.30pm. “Shivam, who lived in Kakrola with his brother, entered the premises of the sewage treatment facility and jumped into the tank filled with wastewater,” the officer said, adding that there is a pathway along the stretch of the drain, which is spread across several kilometres, from where he accessed the area.
His body was recovered with the help of the locals and emergency responders. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Proceedings under Section 194 of the BNSS have been initiated and an autopsy is being conducted. The body was handed over to the family.
