Rains 2 months away, Gurgaon to deploy QRTs to avert flooding at hotspots
Departments were told to ensure adequate deployment of manpower, pumping machinery and essential equipment, with round-the-clock readiness to prevent disruptions to public movement during heavy rainfall
Gurgaon: Haryana’s principal adviser on urban development, D S Dhesi, has directed the deployment of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) at waterlogging hotspots to ensure immediate action. Vulnerable areas like Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sheetla Mata Mandir Road and Signature Tower were reviewed, and departments were told to ensure adequate deployment of manpower, pumping machinery and essential equipment, with round-the-clock readiness to prevent disruptions to public movement during heavy rainfall. The remarks came during the 9th district coordination meeting held at the Mini Secretariat, where officers from multiple departments conducted a detailed review of infrastructure projects and civic issues, with emphasis on interdepartmental coordination and timely execution. Dhesi directed the MCG commissioner to keep mobile response teams stationed at critical points during rainfall. He also instructed NHAI and GMDA to ensure seamless integration of NHAI surface drains with GMDA's master drainage network, particularly along the Sohna Road corridor.Providing updates, GMDA CEO P C Meena said construction of a stormwater drain near Tau Devi Lal Stadium is progressing steadily and will improve drainage from the Sector 32-38 master road towards the Badshapur drain, addressing waterlogging on the Medanta Road stretch.
Similar drainage augmentation is underway at Narsinghpur. On the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), officials said stormwater from Ghata to Vatika Chowk will be diverted to the Badshapur drain, while water from Vatika Chowk to NH8 will flow into the Leg 4 drain to prevent accumulation on the carriageway. Large-scale desilting of drains, along with construction of road gullies and water traps, is also in progress. The meeting reviewed progress on the master sewer network in sectors 81-115, where 68 km of sewer lines have been laid, with only 2 km remaining. To enhance decentralised sewage management, Dhesi directed MCM, MCG and GMDA to each develop one micro STP as a pilot, with tenders to be floated within 10 days.GMDA informed that tenders for a 100 MLD STP in Sector 107 will be floated by May 10, while the 40 MLD STP at Naurangpur will be tendered this week, significantly boosting treatment capacity in New Gurgaon.Progress on legacy waste removal at Bandhwari was also reviewed. MCG commissioner said work has been mobilised and is being monitored daily, and tenders for door-to-door municipal waste collection have been floated to streamline services.
