Gurgaon: MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya on Monday chaired a meeting to review air pollution control measures in the city and directed departments to meet targets set under Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) guidelines.
The commissioner set a one-week deadline for NHAI, PWD and HSIIDC to integrate their departments with GMDA's complaint handling system portal and asked officials to decide on the location and technology for a proposed green crematorium by March 20.
The review meeting, held at MCG office, was attended by officials from agencies including NHAI, HSIIDC, GMDA, PWD, the traffic police and Haryana state pollution control board (HSPCB).
During the meeting, officials from the pollution control board said 30 industrial units operating without consent to operate or consent to establish had been sealed as part of enforcement action.
"Controlling air pollution was a shared responsibility of all departments. Agencies must work together to complete the set targets on time to ensure a clean and healthy environment in the city," Dahiya said. He added that better coordination among departments was essential for effective pollution control.
Dahiya also directed officials to improve the quality and pace of ongoing road improvement works and ensure that projects were executed end to end to reduce dust pollution.
Further, officials from GMDA said that work was under way to lower around 30km of green belt areas below the road surface level. The project is targeted for completion before the monsoon to support plantation, rainwater recharge and dust control.
The meeting also discussed plans to set up EV charging and battery swapping stations within a 3 sq km area under new CAQM guidelines to encourage the use of electric vehicles and help reduce pollution.
