Gurgaon: A home guard deployed at a police checkpost outside Worldmark Mall in Sector 65 died after an allegedly speeding concrete mixer truck crashed into a barricade and struck him late Tuesday night.
Sandeep was placing a barricade during checkpost duty when the truck hit him at 11.05pm. According to a complaint filed by sub-inspector Devendra Kumar, the checkpost was being manned by him along with constables Sumit and Manjit, SPO Rajkumar, and Sandeep. The personnel tried to catch hold of the driver, but he abandoned the truck and fled before he could be apprehended.
The vehicle first struck Sandeep head-on before crashing into the barricade. The impact was so severe that the truck — an
Ashok Leyland concrete mixer — also hit a Maruti Suzuki Brezza belonging to constable Sumit, which was parked on the roadside.
Sandeep suffered serious injuries in the collision. Constable Sumit immediately informed Sector 65 police station, following which an Emergency Response Team (ERV) reached the spot. The injured home guard was taken to the Sector 10 govt hospital in the ERV, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
SI Vijay Kumar and constable Sarjit reached the spot at around 11.20pm. The station house officer was informed and the crime scene was secured.
Police registered a case under sections 106 (causing death due to negligence) and 281 (
rash driving) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sector 65 police station. The truck has been seized and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver. Police said that Sandeep was recently transferred from Bhiwani to Gurgaon.
