Gurgaon KMP Expressway crash: Polish tourist, driver killed as Taj Mahal-bound cab crushed between trucks
GURGAON: A tragic road accident on the KMP Expressway near village Yadupur claimed the lives of two people and left one foreign national seriously injured in the early hours of February 18, police said. The victims were travelling to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal when the fatal collision occurred.
According to police officials, the incident began when a goods truck reportedly broke down on the expressway during the early morning hours. The truck driver, identified as Manjesh Singh, stepped out of the vehicle to alert approaching traffic and prevent an accident. During this time, a taxi travelling from the Manesar side allegedly struck him, leaving him injured.
Moments later, a speeding dumper truck, reportedly being driven in a reckless manner, rammed into the taxi from behind. The force of the collision pushed the car into a stationary truck parked along the roadside, crushing the vehicle between the two heavy trucks and causing severe damage.
Police and emergency services rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. With the help of local residents, authorities rescued three occupants trapped inside the car. The taxi driver, Mohammad Nafis, a resident of Agra, and a Polish tourist identified as Michal Majzik (29) were declared dead at the scene due to severe injuries.
Another Polish national, Agnieszka Kacynel [27], who was travelling with Majzik, sustained critical injuries and was immediately shifted to AIIMS Delhi for advanced treatment. Officials confirmed that the tourists had been picked up from a hotel in Gurgaon earlier that morning and were heading to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal when the accident took place.
The injured truck driver, Manjesh Singh, was admitted to hospital and later submitted a complaint seeking legal action against the dumper truck driver, alleging that reckless driving led to the fatal crash. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 125(A), 281, and 106.
Police officials said that the registration of the case was slightly delayed due to technical issues with the CCTNS system. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and identify those responsible for the incident.
