Footpaths, fencing, crossings: Revamp for service roads in Gurgaon’s new sectors soon

Gurgaon: Service roads along the three master roads will soon be revamped to restore connectivity and ease traffic congestion along key stretches. Around 7.5km of service roads will be taken up under the plan.GMDA said the aim is to ensure "through-and-through" connectivity so that commuters can travel seamlessly along these parallel roads without broken links or unusable patches. A tender for the work was already floated, and GMDA is hoping to begin execution by March. The repair work is expected to be completed within six months once the project is started. The project has an estimated cost of around Rs 20 crore."We have invited bids for repair work. The repair will help distribute traffic better and reduce the burden on the main carriageway, improving overall flow and safety. We are hoping to complete the tendering process soon and start the work by March," the senior official of GMDA said.Under the plan, service roads along sectors 51-57, 52–57 and 51-52 will be resurfaced. The roads handle a steady flow of vehicles coming from the Tau Devi Lal Biodiversity Park and towards Ambedkar Chowk and Nirvana Country road, with the stretches remaining busy through the day. Apart from strengthening and road resurfacing, GMDA will undertake drainage improvement to address recurring waterlogging issues along these stretches. As part of the plan, green spaces between the main carriageway and the service road will be lowered by cutting down the earthen portion. Officials said this is being done to reduce the risk of water accumulation and ensure smoother flow of rainwater during monsoon showers.Footpath repair works will also be carried out alongside the service roads to improve pedestrian safety. Officials said damaged and uneven footpaths will be fixed to make the corridors safer for residents who walk to nearby markets. In addition, fencing will be installed along the green spaces to prevent encroachment and ensure that the landscaped areas remain protected.Residents have welcomed the move. "Traffic pressure on the roads increased sharply over the years, and the service roads are crucial because they cater to local traffic. Right now, during school hours, it becomes a real challenge to cross these roads. If the service roads and footpaths are repaired properly, it will ease congestion and make the stretch safer for pedestrians," said Pawan Kumar Yadav, RWA president of Sushant Lok 2 and 3.Additionally, GMDA is also planning to revamp around 10km of service roads along three other stretches — Ardee City–Sohna Road, the sector dividing road between sectors 49 and 50, and the sector dividing road between sectors 30 and 31. Officials said the estimate for this project is currently being prepared and the work will be taken up once the proposal is finalised.
