3 Army personnel held for attacking cops in Faridabad village
Gurgaon: Three Army personnel were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attacking a police team and obstructing govt duty in Faridabad a day earlier.Police said the incident took place in Old Bhupani village on Wednesday night after a woman lodged a complaint.
Army havildars Rohtash alias Tota, Akash alias Leelu and Rohit alias Bhola — all residents of the village — were arrested following the registration of a case."During questioning, it emerged that the trio are Army personnel, who came home on leave. Investigators said they had an ongoing dispute with their neighbour Rajpal and his family," police spokesperson Yashpal Yadav (SI) said, adding, "When the police team arrived to probe the complaint, they turned aggressive and attacked the officers as well." The woman told officers that her family went to attend her son's wedding when neighbours, with whom they had an old feud, entered their house and assaulted family members with sticks and axes. She said Rohtash, Akash, Rohit, Omwati, Mahaviri and others attacked the family of Rajpal, her husband, due to previous enmity. Acting on the complaint, a team from Bhupani police station reached the village to conduct the inquiry. During the proceedings, members of the accused party's family came out of their house armed with sticks and confronted the police team. They attacked the officers, causing injuries and hindering them from carrying out official duties.Based on the complaint of sub-inspector Deshraj, an FIR was registered at Bhupani police station under sections 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt to any person being a public servant), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 190 (member of unlawful assembly), 191(2) (rioting), 191(3) (rioting with a deadly weapon), 221 (voluntarily obstructing a public servant), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation by threatening to cause death or grievous hurt).Police said that on Feb 18, when Rajpal's son's wedding procession left the village and only women were present at home, the accused picked up a quarrel. Efforts are on to take action against other accused named in the case, police added.
