Worms found in tap water alarms Valpoi locals
Valpoi: Residents of Valpoi were alarmed after white worm-like contaminants were reportedly found in tap water at a local household, raising concerns over water safety in the area.
Siddesh Chari, a resident of Valpoi, recounted the disturbing incident. “On Tuesday, while bathing, I turned on the tap and noticed a white worm fall into the bucket. I collected it in a container. The next day, I found another similar worm,” he said.
The incident quickly created panic among locals, prompting swift action from the department of drinking water. Officials visited the affected area on Wednesday, collected water samples, and secured the two worms found on consecutive days for further analysis.
As a precautionary measure, authorities have advised residents not to consume tap water until laboratory reports confirm its safety. Meanwhile, alternative arrangements are being made.
Madan Desai, assistant engineer at the Valpoi drinking water department confirmed the development. “We received a complaint regarding foreign particles in the water connection of one household. We have flushed the pipeline and collected samples, which have been sent to Panaji for testing,” he stated.
He further assured residents that the issue appears isolated. “So far, we have received a complaint from only one house. Different wards in Valpoi are supplied water through separate pipelines, so there is no need for widespread panic,” Desai added.
To ensure uninterrupted water supply, tanker services have been arranged in the affected area until test results are received.
Officials have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate as the investigation continues.
