Sancoale group urges CM to review luxe project

Vasco: Villagers of Sancoale have sought chief minister Pramod Sawant’s intervention to cancel a proposed a luxury project by Bhutani Infra in the village.

On Sunday a large number of locals from across Sancoale threatened to launch a state wide agitation if govt failed to revoke the project, which they fear will cause environmental damage to their village. Agitated villagers alleged that despite their objections in various gram sabha meets, the panchayat had cleared the project. “Govt and its other agencies have decided to sell Goa, and this project is one such example,” alleged social activist Narayan Naik. Several green activists have also raised concern over this project.

TOI had reported Sep 6 that with anger mounting across the state over rampant hill cutting, particularly by Bhutani Infra at Sancoale, town and country planning (TCP) minister Vishwajit Rane had asked for a review of the permissions granted to the realty firm. Rane had also directed forest officials to visit the construction site at Sancoale to see if trees had been cut and for other violations. Bhutani Infra has planned luxury highrises at Sancoale, with prices starting at Rs 1 crore and going up to Rs 12 crore.
