Peddlers offered to sell me drugs next to police kiosk: Foreigner

Panaji: A foreigner alleged that two drug peddlers offered to sell him drugs in front of a police kiosk at Calangute. The foreigner, who visited Calangute with some women, posted a video online narrating how he was approached by the peddlers. The video went viral on Sunday.

“People are openly selling drugs to us, asking me for coke or something similar. We just walked past a police station, and you can also see here they have a hut—Goa police,” said the foreigner. “Apparently, they (Goa police) are OK with the situation. People are obviously selling drugs here and taking drugs here. People do come here to North Goa.” While walking towards the beach, the foreigner said, “They also come here to do drugs and take drugs, right, but it’s not for us, so we keep moving. I am just coming here and getting our scooter.”

While describing the two drug peddlers, the foreigner said, “A really weird guy came up to me and asked if I wanted to buy drugs. So, I definitely think it's time to get out of here. These two guys here tried to sell me drugs ... yep, let’s get out of here. I mean even if we did drugs, I would never ever in a million years buy drugs from those guys.”

Reacting to the video, anti-narcotics cell (ANC) SP Sunita Sawant said that Goa police has a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs.

“We are monitoring the drug menace in the state and act against it. ANC and local police teams are on the ground to curb the drug menace. We are verifying the facts of the video circulated on social media,” said Sawant.

The availability of drugs in Goa has been under the spotlight since a tourist from Indore died here a few days ago due to an alleged drug overdose. TOI reported that the post-mortem examination of the 21-year-old tourist, Ishan Singh Badgujar, revealed a cocktail of drugs and alcohol in his body. A govt source said that Badgujar reportedly consumed a fatal mix of ecstasy and MDMA in addition to alcohol. Due to the deadly combination, he suffered cerebral pulmonary oedema and cardiac changes. The drugs were also suspected to be adulterated.

Badgujar died in Goa on Saturday after he and his friends visited a club at Vagator and at midnight, he started feeling uneasy. He was shifted to a private hospital at Anjuna. Nine friends arrived in Goa on Thursday.
