Notice issued to Goa governor over appointment of PIO at Raj Bhavan

PANAJI: The

Goa state information commission

on Tuesday issued a notice to the state governor over the complaint by a social activist seeking appointment of a

public information officer

at

Goa Raj Bhavan

under the

RTI Act 2005

.

The complaint has been posted for hearing and final disposal before the

Chief Information commissioner

on June 13.

The complainant Aires Rodrigues sought orders to be passed directing Raj Bhavan to appoint a public information officer and disclose public information under section 4 (1) of the RTI act. In his complaint Rodrigues states that despite being a public authority, a public information officer has not been appointed at Raj Bhavan.

“Raj Bhavan is covered under the definition of public authority and the failure to appoint a public information officer is illegal,” he stated in his complaint.

“Other Raj Bhavans across the country and even the Rashtrapathi Bhavan are complying with the Right to Information Act. Instead of strengthening the Transparency law, the Goa Raj Bhavan has allowed it to be weakened,” it further added.
