Meat vendors ask CCP for alternative space in mkt

Panaji: Meat vendors operating from the municipal fish market have requested the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to allocate them an alternative space in the market to set up their shops. Barring the ground floor, the fish market building has been sealed as it has been declared unsafe for human occupation.

The CCP has plans to seal the ground floor in two weeks and, subsequently, begin demolishing the structure to make way for a new building.

The vendors, who claim to be leaseholders, have reached out to CCP commissioner Clen Madeira through a written request. In their letter, they have asked for separate temporary spaces for chicken, mutton, and beef within the municipal area until the completion of the proposed new building. They have sought an assurance from the CCP that they will be allocated shops on the ground floor of the new building once it is constructed.

A senior CCP official said that the corporation is exploring the possibility of providing the vendors with temporary stalls or space near the new municipal market.
