FIRs against oppn MLAs, 1,500 others for marching to Rane’s house to oppose Section 39A of TCP Act
Panaji: Goa police on Saturday filed an FIR against leader of opposition Yuri Alemao, Congress Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira, AAP Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, AAP Velim MLA Cruz Silva, RGP president Manoj Parab, activists, and around 1,500 supporters for allegedly marching to the residence of TCP minister Vishwajit Rane at Dona Paula and allegedly blocking the road for nearly eight hours.
A total of three FIRs were registered by Panaji police against protesters and others in different events connected to the protest to scrap Section 39(A) of the TCP Act.
Police said that the accused persons, with common object, formed an unlawful assembly and, without obtaining prior permission from the competent authority, organised the protest under the pretext of extending solidarity to Borkar and scrapping Section 39A of the TCP Act.
Police said that the accused marched towards the TCP minister’s residence in Dona Paula and blocked the roads for more than eight hours, thereby wrongfully restraining road users and the general public, who faced hardship due to the blockage, and also deterring public servants while discharging their duties.
In another FIR, police said that the accused persons formed an unlawful assembly and, with common intention, criminally trespassed into the office premises of the TCP department under the pretext of submitting a representation regarding a change of zone carried out under Section 39A of the TCP Act in Siridao village in St Andre constituency.
Police said that the protestors sat outside the cabin even after officials informed them that action was initiated on their representation, and they refused to vacate the office premises, thereby allegedly wrongfully restraining the office staff in one place, allegedly obstructing the staff in doing their regular work, allegedly hampering the smooth functioning of office work, allegedly threatening the lives of the staff, and allegedly harassing the staff due to continuous slogans against govt, as well as allegedly singing bhajans in the office. Police also said they allegedly damaged the railing and boosters of the staircase of the office premises.
TOI has reported earlier that Police registered an FIR against Borkar, Parab, 20 Siridao villagers, and others for allegedly committing theft of 10 files and criminal trespass at the TCP office at Patto.
