Bangladeshi ‘dacoits’ entered India from Meghalaya: Police
Panaji: Goa police investigations in the Mapusa and Dona Paula dacoity cases have revealed that the accused Bangladeshi nationals entered India from Meghalaya.
They planned the dacoity in Goa when one of them was in Colvale jail, where he developed his network. The person came to India every six months to conduct dacoities in various parts of the country since 2010.
The Bangladeshis conduct recces for around two days to understand the sleeping pattern of the families. The accused decamped with items worth Rs 55 lakh—Rs 35 lakh in the Dona Paula dacoity and Rs 20 lakh in the Mapusa dacoity.
DGP Alok Kumar said the accused persons were identified long ago by Goa police, and now, the main accused has been arrested. Kumar said that after the crimes, they escaped to Bangladesh. The five arrested are Noor Islam aka Nadim Khan, Md Saiful Islam, Sattar Khan, Zakir Hauladar, and Md Sumon Hauladar, from Bangladesh.
Crime branch SP Rahul Gupta said that it was revealed that they crossed the border from Meghalaya. Since one of them, Noor Islam, already has a criminal history in Goa, he is familiar with Goa and was instrumental in bringing the rest of the gang to the state.
“Noor Islam was in Colvale jail for nearly 22 months, and he was transferred to a jail in Andhra Pradesh, where he got bail. After that, he returned to Goa for dacoties. He developed his criminal network in jail and he used the same to execute the dacoities,” he said.
“Some members of the gang did a recce of targeted residential localities and the accused persons stayed in nearby secluded/jungle areas for one or two days observing the sleeping patterns of the residents,” said Gupta. “They also studied the number of family members and easiest entry into the house. They divided themselves into small groups of two to three to avoid being noticed.”
Gupta said that the accused persons used to keep fixed meeting points such as bus stands, railway stations, and beach areas. “They did not employ technical methods of communication to avoid being detected,” he said.
The accused were well equipped with weapons such as rods and knives to threaten residents and in case they faced retaliation. The source of these weapons is still being established.
Upon gaining unlawful entry into the said bungalows, the accused persons carried out an assessment of the internal layout, identified locked and unlocked rooms, and selectively targeted accessible areas for the dacoity.
“During the commission of the offence, the accused persons assaulted and tied the family members present in the houses and thereafter committed dacoity by decamping with gold ornaments and other valuables,” said Gupta. Goa police teams were sent to Belagavi, Bijapur, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, Tripura, and Meghalaya. Gang members were identified and details were shared with state police departments
