Panaji: The authorities are planning to install CCTV cameras along the Mandovi promenade and Miramar stretch to improve safety for city residents and discourage anti-social activities at night.
Mayor Rohit Monserrate conducted a site review with police officers and Smart City officials to identify suitable locations for the installation of surveillance cameras. He said the cameras are being installed to ensure the safety of joggers and residents who use the promenade.
Panaji police inspector Vijaykumar Chodankar walked the stretch to identify suitable locations where the CCTV cameras could be installed. The site review focused on assessing key points along the promenade and other strategic locations where “enhanced monitoring can contribute towards creating a safer and more secure environment” for those who use the promenade, particularly at night.
Many women and children use the promenade to run or walk. The authorities have noticed that the promenade also attracts groups of single men who drink alcohol and break bottles. Locals have even complained about hawkers and vagrants occupying parts of the promenade.
