Ghaziabad: Work on the Meerut section of the rapid rail is gaining momentum. The RRTS viaduct of the section from Brahmapuri station to Shatabdi Nagar in Meerut is now completely ready. Work on laying of the track in this section is expected to progress rapidly, officials said.
Currently, track work is in progress between Meerut South and Shatabdi Nagar, as well as between Shatabdi Nagar and Brahmapuri. Officials said that tracks on both sides have been laid till a little before the Brahmapuri station, adding that OHE and signaling works will be undertaken soon.
Earlier this week, large cranes were installed under the viaduct for load testing of the RRTS viaduct constructed between the section from Brahmapuri station to Shatabdi Nagar in Meerut. This required diverting some parts of the road on both sides for traffic. During this time, heavy concrete blocks weighing about 650 tonnes were lifted and lowered onto the viaduct with the help of cranes for load testing.
“The barricading near Atul Maheshwari flyover on the Delhi-Meerut road has been removed. Now, after the completion of civil works in this section, the roads have been fully opened for vehicular movement,” said an official from NCRTC.
The official went on to add, “The viaduct load test is conducted to check the weight-bearing capacity of the viaduct, ensuring that the viaduct span can support the weight of the trains running on it. This process has now been completed.”
Brahmapuri station is part of the Meerut Metro network. The NCRTC is constructing the Meerut Metro, which runs on a 23km section in Meerut city, and is set to have 13 stations.
This project marks the first time in the country that both the Namo Bharat Train and Meerut Metro will operate on the same infrastructure of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS, officials said.
