MAMC student found dead, no note found; suicide suspected
New Delhi: A student at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) in central Delhi allegedly died by suicide on Sunday. Navdeep, a 25-year-old second-year MD student, was found dead in his room.According to resident doctors, he was a junior resident in radiology-PG. "He did his MBBS from MAMC and was a very bright student All india rank 1 in NEET UG exam," said a doctor.According to police, Navdeep's father grew concerned when his son didn't respond to phone calls. He sent a friend to check on Navdeep, who found the door locked from the inside.Upon breaking open the door, the friend discovered Navdeep's lifeless body. The police were immediately informed. An inquest is currently underway.However, no suicide note has been found at the scene, leaving the exact circumstances and motivations behind Navdeep's death unclear. MAMC community expressed shock, with students and faculty members expressing their condolences and support for Navdeep's family. Some doctors claimed multiple deaths by suicide have come to fore in the last one year and needed attention.
The Resident Doctors' association also released a statement. "With a very heavy heart, we mourn the untimely and tragic demise of our beloved post- graduate resident Dr. Navdeep Singh of batch 2023, Department of Radio-diagnosis, MAMC. His presence will be profoundly missed, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace," it read. The authorities have urged anyone with information or insights into Navdeep's death to come forward and cooperate with the investigation. They will also be interviewing his friends, colleagues and family to know more. The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy.
