Sainik Farms kidnapping: Two arrested, Rs 4 lakh recovered
New Delhi: Days after a 72-year-old chartered accountant was assaulted, robbed and abducted from his Sainik Farms residence, police arrested two people in the case.
Police said the man was home alone on the evening of May 2 when three unidentified individuals allegedly forced their way into the house around 7.45 pm, overpowered and assaulted him, and ransacked the premises.
Investigators said nearly Rs 5 lakh in cash kept in an almirah, Rs 8,000-10,000 from a drawer, a purse with cash, three rings and several documents were stolen.
After the robbery, the accused allegedly forced the victim into his own car and drove towards Meerut. During the journey, they demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh and pressurised him to call an acquaintance to arrange Rs 15 lakh, falsely claiming he had met with an accident.
When the extortion bid failed, the accused abandoned the victim along with his car near the Delhi-Mumbai Highway and fled, police said. The victim later contacted the police. A medical examination showed he suffered blunt injuries.
Following a PCR call on May 3, a case was registered at Neb Sarai police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
DCP South Anant Mittal formed teams under ACP Sangam Vihar Mukesh Walia. Police carried out technical surveillance and conducted local inquiries to identify the accused.
The investigation led police to Mathura, where the two accused were arrested. They were identified as Surender, 31, a resident of Fatehabad, and a 40-year-old woman from Kalkaji in southeast Delhi.
Police said Rs 4 lakh of the stolen cash, the victim’s purse, an air gun allegedly used in the crime and the car used by the accused were recovered.
