NEW DELHI: Public Works Department (PWD) will take the help of 30 influencers to popularise the streetscaping of 16 roads.
Officials said the objective is to raise awareness among people about using and protecting public spaces in the streetscaped areas. The PWD will organise an influencer's meet on Saturday on the Sri Aurobindo Marg stretch, which is one such area.
The work on these roads, which was started in 2022, included remodelling of storm water drains and construction of new ones, beautification of footpaths, sitting areas and marked lanes. For the project, the architects devised unique ways to display road elements and make walking a pleasant experience.
"Aiming to make people aware about the use of these boulevards and open spaces, we thought of doing something outside the box and invited a few influencers to take the idea to people through their social media presence," Vinay Sheel Saxena, the executive engineer in the streetscaping division in the PWD, said.
The department is holding the meet under the campaign called Responsible Ownership of Public Spaces (
ROSE). Social media influencers will be explained the steps taken by the government under the road revamp project.
"Different parts of Delhi have been specifically designed keeping in mind the need for adequate spaces required for pedestrians, avid cyclists, or fitness enthusiasts. We want people to actively take responsibility in keeping the roads safe," Saxena said.
Observing the enthusiasm among the influencers, the PWD has decided to recognise the participants with an official certificate for their contribution to spreading awareness, the PWD said.
The PWD hopes the initiative will receive a positive response as the 30 influencers have millions of followers.
Although, the PWD has introduced different street elements, these roads also face issues of theft and encroachment in some parts.
