NDMC launches 24x7 water supply pilot project at Vinay Marg

New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council launched a 24x7 water supply pilot project at Vinay Marg on Tuesday for uninterrupted drinking water supply to residents.The project covers around 550 connections, most of which are at govt quarters maintained by the Central Public Works Department. As part of the initiative, NDMC plans to minimise water loss by identifying and plugging leaks, upgrading the distribution network, and optimising supply management.A key feature of the project is the installation of a SCADA — supervisory control and data acquisition — system, which will enable real-time monitoring and control of the water supply network.NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal said that under the Prime Minister's Har Ghar Jal initiative, NDMC is implementing this pilot to modernise the supply system. A consultant was appointed earlier, and the plan was developed based on its recommendations."Under this project, modern VFD-based motor pump sets will be installed at the Vinay Marg boosting station. Additionally, IT-enabled instrumentation, automation systems and data analytics will be introduced to enhance monitoring, transparency and accountability in water supply operations," he said.Essential electrical improvements will be carried out in the existing pipeline network. The project was approved at a cost of about Rs 1.4 crore and would be done within five months.NDMC will begin within next month the process of appointing a consultant for preparing a study and a design to implement 24x7 water supply across its jurisdiction.
