MCD panel to review dumpsite reclamation, Okhla plant expansion on Feb 23
New Delhi: The standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will take up several key proposals on Feb 23, including land reclamation at three major dumpsites, expansion of the Okhla waste-to-energy plant and setting up a medical college under a public-private partnership model. The committee will examine proposals for bio-remediation and bio-mining at the Okhla, Ghazipur and Bhalswa dumpsites to reclaim land through scientific disposal of legacy waste. The move is part of the civic body's ongoing efforts to reduce the height of garbage mounds and free land for future public use.
In another major environmental proposal, the panel will consider a draft supplementary agreement to expand the Okhla waste-to-energy plant's processing capacity from 1,550 tonnes per day to 2,550 tonnes per day. The agenda also includes a proposal to establish a medical college and an associated hospital on vacant land at Kingsway Camp under a public-private partnership model, aimed at strengthening MCD's healthcare infrastructure. The committee will also take up a proposal to extend the concessionaire agreement for primary and secondary collection and transportation of municipal solid waste in the Central Zone. Other items on the agenda include extending the contract for supply of medical gases to MCD-run hospitals, hiring manpower for the horticulture department, selecting a vendor for internet bandwidth and IT infrastructure maintenance across civic offices, reviewing audit observations and approving priority payment of Rs 8.7 crore in compliance with a high court order.
