NEWDELHI: A lethal combination of greed and passion cost Surjit Singh Marwah hislife. Marwah's daughter Niti Sarin (45) is accused of killing her father for hisproperty worth Rs 15 crore.
After completing her schooling, Niti wenton to earn a diploma in designing. She married in 1985, had two children andeventually separated from her husband in 2004. In 2005, she met Gulfam Ahmed,and everything changed.
Niti fell in love with Gulfam, 18 years herjunior. The relationship prospered till Niti started getting insecure. Soon, itbecame a desperate game to keep him by her side at anycost.
"Initially, Gulfam, who is from a well to do family, and Nitiwould spend equally on their lavish outings.
However, soon his family stoppedgiving Gulfam money, forcing him to turn to Niti for it. When she refused, afight would follow. So to keep him happy and with her, Niti started splurging onhim and soon ran into debt," said a police official.
Niti and Gulfamwould party every night. This did not go down well with her father in whosehouse she lived with her two children a 16-year-old daughter and eight-year-oldson.
"Marwah was convinced that Niti would splurge his property awayafter his death.
So he drew up a will, excluding her completely. The will saidafter his death, Niti's children would inherit his property and until theybecame adults, the property would be locked in a trust," a police officialsaid.
An enraged Niti, cornered by debtors, then hatched the plan tokill Marwah. She made it appear that Marwah had gifted his East of Kailash hometo her before "disappearing". She and Gulfam, who then started living togetherin the house, put it up for redevelopment. But the long arm of the law caught upwith them before they could profit further.
