Investigation into malviya nagar sisters murder linked to loneliness and financial stress

New Delhi: Investigation into the double murder of two sisters, allegedly by their mother, who later attempted suicide at their residence in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar, indicated that loneliness, strained relations with family members may have led to the incident.Police sources said the woman and her daughters had minimal interaction with other family members and largely remained confined to the ground floor of the house, rarely stepping out. Investigators believed this isolation may have contributed to their depression. The woman was still receiving treatment at the hospital and no statement was recorded.
Police were also examining the possibility of financial difficulties, but her husband told cops that they were managing fine.The incident was reported on Thursday when the husband returned home around 5 pm and kept knocking on the door, but no one opened it. He also went to the rear of the house, but could not enter the flat. He tried to contact key makers but came to know that the door cannot be opened by them. Neighbours also came, and after half an hour, police was contacted, a neighbour said.Crushed naphthalene balls and a strip of used bandage were found in the Malviya Nagar flat.Police suspected that the younger daughter was strangled with the crepe bandage. The elder daughter was smothered with a pillow. Cops said they found signs of struggle that indicated smothering.Sources added that the mixture of naphthalene balls may have been used to sedate one of the daughters, and mother may have consumed it as well. "These are our suspicions. We are awaiting the post-mortem reports of the sisters and medical reports of the woman, who was receiving treatment," the source added.
