Student’s death by suicide: Police may question teachers
New Delhi: Delhi Police will question the authorities of a south Delhi school in connection with the suicide of a Class X student last week. The FIR for abetment to suicide alleges that the boy was driven to suicide because he wasn’t given the admit card for exams and because his mother was insulted by the school principal.Police sources said that they were collecting evidence, including footage from CCTV cameras. The investigators will interact with children and question the teachers. Delhi Police has filed the FIR for abetment to suicide on the complaint of deceased student's father, who said his son was to have appeared for the board exams starting from Feb 21."Denying him the admit card put my son under mental tension since he would have lost one year of his studies and also my wife being insulted because of my son doing something imaginary and/or mundane were the reasons why my son took this extreme step," the father said.He added, “The principal and a teacher have abetted the suicide of my son which is evident from all the actions as narrated in the complaint.”TOI had earlier reported that the victim's mother had received a call from her son’s English teacher at 10.30am on Feb 19. “The teacher told her that my son wouldn’t be given the admit card for exams. My wife went to the school. She and my son were taken to the principal’s office,” the boy’s father alleged. The complainant also claimed that the principal told his wife to pay about Rs 10,000 as fine for a chair that the son had allegedly broken. “The principal threatened not to issue the admit card until the fine was paid. My wife, therefore, agreed to pay the fine,” the father claimed, adding that the principal insulted her in front of her son and questioned her on the upbringing of the kid. “My son was also scolded for 15 minutes. He was apparently crying when leaving the principal’s office,” he said.
