A 22-year-old woman, daughter of a senior bureaucrat, was sexually assaulted and murdered at her south Delhi residence on April 22nd morning.

Police arrested a 23-year-old accused from a hotel in Dwarka within 12 hours of the crime, following an intensive search operation involving multiple teams and extensive CCTV footage analysis.

CCTV footage recorded the accused entering at 6.39am and leaving at 7.22am. He was seen calmly walking away with a backpack after changing clothes inside the house.

The accused had previously worked as a domestic help at the victim’s home but was dismissed six weeks earlier over alleged financial misconduct, according to police statements during the investigation.

The victim was reportedly studying when the accused entered the house, attacked her with a blunt object, and later strangled her using a mobile phone charging cable.

The crime occurred around 22nd of April 6.40am morning when the victim’s parents had gone for their morning gym session, leaving the house unattended except for the victim at that time.

The suspect was aware of the family’s routine and knew about a spare key kept outside, allowing him to enter the flat early morning without raising suspicion.

The accused stayed inside for about 40 minutes, ransacking cupboards and safes. He fled with around Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and valuables after packing them into a bag.

A domestic help cleaning a car reportedly questioned the accused while leaving, but he avoided interaction by citing urgent work, according to a security guard in the residential colony.

Police teams analysed over 100 CCTV cameras to trace the accused, and officials said strong evidence has been gathered to ensure a solid case and recovery of stolen valuables.
