Some parts of the city saw light rain on Thursday. The intensity of the rain is likely to increase on Saturday and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a “yellow alert” for moderate rain, which may aggravate the flood situation in the city.

“It takes 72 hours for water to reach from Hathnikund to NCR and a maximum amount of water 3. 5 lakh cusec was released on Tuesday. So, technically, the maximum impact could be seen in Delhi on Friday. There is another prediction of rainfall in Uttarakhand and Himachal from July 16,” said Sandeep Kumar, executive engineer posted at Water Services Division (Dadupur) of Yamuna Nagar district in Haryana, where administrative control of the barrage lies.
