‘Burdened by mounting loans’: 55-year-old man, wife found dead at Delhi home; note recovered
NEW DELHI: A 55-year-old man and his wife were found dead at their residence in northeast Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar on Thursday, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide.
A note recovered from the spot indicated that the couple was under financial distress and burdened by mounting loans, police said.

The couple’s children were not at home at the time of the incident. When they returned later, they found their parents lying dead and immediately informed the police.
According to police, a call regarding a suspected suicide was received at around 12.05 am on Friday. A police team rushed to the house located in West Jyoti Nagar, where the bodies of the husband and wife were found in separate rooms.
“A husband and his wife were found dead in separate rooms of their house,” a senior police officer said, adding that no signs of forced entry or foul play were noticed during the initial inspection of the premises.
The crime team and forensic experts were called to the spot to examine the scene. Evidence was collected and documented as part of the investigation.
The bodies were later sent to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police said that during the preliminary inquiry, an alleged suicide note was recovered from the house. In the note, the couple reportedly mentioned the loans they had taken and their inability to cope with ongoing financial instability. The contents of the note are being verified as part of the investigation, the officer added.
Police said the couple had been facing financial difficulties for some time. They reportedly ran a small factory earlier, which was shut down, leaving them without a stable source of income. Their children were also engaged in petty work to support the household, but the family continued to struggle financially.
Proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been initiated in the case. Police said further investigation is underway, and statements of family members and neighbours are being recorded to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.
