AAP councillors protest over LPG shortage, disrupt MCD House meeting

New Delhi: A protest by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors over the alleged shortage of LPG cylinders disrupted the monthly House meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Friday.

AAP councillors staged a demonstration both inside and outside the House, calling the scarcity of cooking gas a serious issue affecting daily life. The protest escalated when a councillor entered the House with a placard and raised slogans, demanding an immediate discussion on the matter.




However, mayor Raja Iqbal Singh allegedly did not permit any debate on the issue. AAP leaders claimed that the agenda was pushed through hastily and the House was adjourned soon after, with the mayor leaving the session.

AAP councillors accused the BJP-led administration of avoiding responsibility, stating that rising inflation, unemployment and lack of basic civic services have made life increasingly difficult for the common people.

The House meeting began with councillors expressing grief over a recent fire incident. Several agenda items were subsequently cleared, including a proposal to set up a facility for processing fresh waste and disposal of by-products with a minimum capacity of 800 tonnes per day at the Pocket C Integrated Freight Complex in Ghazipur.

Multiple proposals related to naming parks, entrance gates and roads were also approved during the session.
