Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday met the families of workers rescued from the Silkyara tunnel in Dehradun. Earlier, the workers rescued from the Silkyara tunnel were airlifted to AIIMS-Rishikesh for a health check-up on Wednesday, officials said. Forty-one workers were rescued from the collapsed tunnel in Uttarkashi after a gruelling 17-day operation that culminated on Tuesday evening. The workers were kept under medical observation at a hospital in Chinyalisaur after their evacuation. Stay with TOI for all updates:

All the 41 workers trapped inside Uttarkashi's Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand are in good health, according to the sources. Arrangements are being made to bring them out using stretchers, they said on Tuesday. The sources said that yesterday cricket ball and bats were sent to the trapped workers through the pipe and they played as well. "We are near a breakthrough, not yet there," NDMA said on Tuesday. "The evacuation of 41 workers may take four-time hours, the NDMA added. In a major breakthrough all teams — including NDRF, SDRF and doctors — are on standby to rescue workers trapped inside Uttarkashi’s Silkyara tunnel for the last 17 days. 'Rat-hole' miners from Uttar Pradesh had teamed up with the Army for the task of manually burrowing through the remaining 10-12 meters of rubble that separated the workers from freedom. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the ongoing rescue and relief efforts from Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd), Member, NDMA says, "It is estimated that it will take 3-5 minutes to evacuate each of the 41 persons. The entire evacuation is expected to take 3-4 hours. Three teams of NDRF will go in ise the tunnel to organise the evacuation. SDRF will provde support. Paramedics will also go inside the tunnel at the time of evacuation."
