Nainital: Triple talaq crusader Shayara Bano claimed to have been assaulted by her estranged husband Rizwan Ahmed in a Kashipur family court on Tuesday. Bano had an altercation with Ahmed when the two arrived in the court for the hearing of a case pertaining to the custody of their 14-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter. Matters came to a head when the altercation turned bitter and Bano slapped Ahmed.
She thereafter filed a complaint with Udham Singh Nagar Police alleging assault by him. However, till the time of the filing of this report, no FIR had been registered in the matter yet.
Speaking to TOI, Bano said, “Rizwan and his friend misbehaved with me and abused me and my family in the court campus. I had to resort to self-defence since I fear he can go to any extent to harm me.”
Meanwhile, Ahmed also filed a complaint with the police accusing Bano and her relatives of manhandling him. “I was threatened and beaten up. I want an impartial enquiry so that the truth can come out,” said Ahmed.
A family member of Bano claimed that the altercation happened because Ahmed had threatened Bano to take back the case she had filed for the custody of their children. “When she refused, he started abusing her and things got ugly,” he said..
Jasveer Singh Chauhan, officer-in-charge of Kashipur police station said that the matter is being investigated and “we will take appropriate action after the preliminary enquiry is completed.”
