Pithoragarh: A 29-year-old shepherd died after slipping on snow and falling into a 300 metres deep ravine in Betulidhar area of Munsyari block in Pithoragarh district late Saturday.
The deceased, Ramesh Ram, a resident of Doar village in Munsyari, had gone to Betulidhar along with his father, Pushkar Ram, 56, to graze their sheep and goats. While they were camping in the area, Ramesh stepped out and slipped in the snow-covered terrain, losing his balance and falling into the ravine.
Pushkar alerted nearby villagers, who informed the police and assisted in the rescue. With the help of residents, police personnel retrieved Ramesh from the ravine and alerted the 108 ambulance service. He was taken to the Munsyari hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
