Dehradun police bust ‘illegal’ party, detain 57 including 17 women
Dehradun: Dehradun Police busted an alleged illegal house party on Saturday night at a bungalow in the Gajiyawala area under the Cantonment police station and detained 57 people, including 17 women. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid along with a team from the excise department.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP), Dehradun, Ajai Singh said the party was organised via WhatsApp invitations and held at a bungalow owned by a woman named Rajni (only first name available).
"It was in violation of the Excise Act, as a significant amount of imported liquor was served without the required permission," said Singh, adding that the organisers should have obtained a licence from the excise department. There were over 30 alcohol bottles including some empty ones in the bangalow.
Police released the 57 people after taking action against them under the Police Act. The homeowner has been booked under relevant Excise Act sections, and an investigation is underway, Singh said.
