Couple killed as car plunges into gorge in Pithoragarh

Pithoragarh: A couple died after their vehicle plunged into a 250m-deep gorge on the Tanakpur–Pithoragarh National Highway on Sunday evening. The deceased Yogesh Kumar, 38 and his wife Nidhi Raj, 28, were returning to Bajethi village after attending a wedding in Gangolihat when the accident occurred.District disaster management officer Bhupendar Singh Mahar said a rescue operation was launched after locals alerted authorities. "Primary investigation suggests that the driver lost control of the vehicle, following which it fell into the gorge. The bodies of the couple have been recovered," he said.
