BJP MLA regrets tiff with basicedu director, says ‘things got heated’
Dehradun: BJP MLA Umesh Sharma Kau on Sunday expressed regret over the altercation at the office of Ajay Kumar Naudiyal, director of the basic education department, saying the incident was "unfortunate"."I had gone to the office of the director to discuss the long-pending issue of renaming a local govt school after a deceased family member who had donated land for it. Things got heated, and the unfortunate incident happened. I offer my apologies to all those affected," the MLA said.Amid ongoing outrage over the assault, police at Dehradun's Raipur police station registered an FIR late Saturday night against unidentified persons for allegedly assaulting Kau and wrongfully confining him in the office. The FIR was filed on the complaint of the MLA's gunner, constable Sushil Ramola, who was present during the incident. This came hours after police had earlier registered an FIR against him and unidentified others based on Naudiyal's complaint.Raipur SHO Girish Negi said, "Ramola alleged that during the commotion, unidentified people hit the MLA by throwing a mobile phone at him and later tried to throw a chair. This occurred while the MLA was peacefully discussing the renaming of a local govt school.
The accused later confined him inside the office after locking it from outside."The SHO added, "Acting on the complaint, a case has been filed against unidentified persons on charges of assault, wrongful confinement and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace under relevant sections of the BNS. A probe is underway."
