30-yr-old man sentenced to 10 years in jail for attempted rape of 11yo boy
Haridwar: A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to rape an 11-year-old boy in Haridwar in 2021. Haridwar additional district judge and fast track special court Judge Chandramani Rai delivered the verdict on Wednesday and imposed a fine of Rs 36,000 on the convict.Govt counsel Bhupendra Singh Chauhan said the accused, a resident of Bahraich, lured the boy to a forest in Haridwar, where he attempted to rape him. When the boy resisted, the accused beat him and fled. Police later arrested him, and he has remained in jail since. He was charged under IPC sections 377 (Unnatural offences), 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) and provisions of the Pocso Act.

The prosecution examined nine witnesses to establish the charges against the convict who was unemployed at the time. The boy's father runs a tea shop in Haridwar, where the child also helped. The convict did not know the victim but falsely told him that his father had sent him and used the pretext of collecting some belongings to lure him into the forest.While pronouncing the sentence, the trial court directed the convict to pay Rs 1 lakh as compensation to the survivor for mental and physical trauma and instructed the District Legal Services Authority to ensure additional compensation as per norms.
