Dehradun: Dehradun police on Sunday arrested three men for allegedly killing their 24-year-old friend over a Rs 2.5 lakh loan dispute and dumping his body in Haridwar, SSP Pramendra Dobal said.Hemant Kumar Semwal (37), Adil Hussain (38) and Vaibhav Bhatt (25), all residents of Nehru Colony, allegedly murdered Digamber Dhiman on Feb 9 during a brawl at Semwal's flat. The crime came to light on Feb 17 after police recovered Dhiman's body from the Chidiapur forest area in Haridwar.Police had earlier arrested an alleged accomplice, Ramnandan, on Feb 17. "During interrogation, he confessed to transporting the body in his taxi from Dehradun to Haridwar for Rs 15,000 and helping dispose of it. Based on his statement, the body was traced and recovered. Acting on inputs from informers and CCTV footage analysis, we arrested the three main accused on Sunday," Dobal said.Police said Dhiman had allegedly borrowed Rs 2.5 lakh from the trio and was delaying repayment. On Feb 9, the accused learnt that Dhiman had gone to a local court for a hearing in a separate Pocso case against him. After the hearing did not take place, they allegedly invited him to Semwal's flat.
"While consuming drugs, the accused raised the issue of repayment. When Dhiman again made excuses, they attacked him with screwdrivers, a hammer and iron rods. He died on the spot. The body was later taken to Haridwar and dumped," Dobal said.An FIR has been registered under relevant BNS sections, including murder and criminal conspiracy. The accused were produced before a local court and sent to jail, he added.
