Cuttack Municipal Corporation plans eco park to help recycle e-waste

Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation is all set to establish an eco park to facilitate the recycling of electronic waste (e-waste) by the end of June. At the eco park, environmentally hazardous waste like e-waste and other waste will be recycled and the precious metal out of the waste will be retrieved for reuse.CMC commissioner Bijay Dash said, “City’s e-waste has increased rapidly. We are surrounded with technology and gadgets 24x7. So waste generation is also high these days, but there is no proper platform to dump it or recycle it.”“Land has been identified for this purpose and a design has been finalised. A team has been engaged to carry out the work and construction in its last leg and it would start operating by June-end,” Dash added. “Here we will receive all kinds of electronic waste and a recycling plant has been setup where the materials would be processed,” Dash said. “In the park, this e-waste will be dismantled, refurbished, recycled and manufactured in a manner that is scientifically and environmentally sound and can be reused properly,” the CMC said. The development of this e-waste eco park will drastically reduce the pollution caused by e-waste in the city.
