CMC raids roadside meat, poultry shops

Cuttack: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Friday conducted raids on roadside meat and poultry shops following complaints of open slaughtering of animals. CMC had asked owners to slaughter animals at the slaughterhouse and sell chicken and meat in shops, following all food safety norms. But most of the shops have been violating it.A 15-member team including police personnel conducted raids in Link Road, Badambadi, Ganeshghat, Barabati stadium area and Biju Patnaik Square. “As the shops were violating the law, a raid was conducted. We have collected a fine of Rs 9,000 and raided 26 shops in various locations,” CMC deputy commissioner Ajay Mohanty said. “We have seized equipment besides 15kg meat,” he added.The meat vendors alleged CMC authorities were harassing them. “We are facing huge loss as people are refusing to buy meat if it is not slaughtered in front of them. We are forced to slaughter in the open,” said a shop owner. TNN

Meat shops in Indore, Ujjain under lens after CMs orders

A drive was launched in Indore and Ujjain to seal 80 illegal meat shops in compliance with the orders of the chief minister. The local civic bodies and police are jointly conducting the drive, which will continue for a fortnight. The Ujjain Municipal Corporation sealed 25 illegal meat shops, while the Indore Municipal Corporation took action against over 55 shops. The shops were removed and measures were implemented to ensure compliance with regulations, including covering the meat shops with nets and glasses.
