Winners of photography contest honoured in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Lakshmi Machine Works Limited (LMW) on Tuesday gave prizes worth Rs 10 lakh to the winners of the 13th edition of the DJ Memorial Photography Contest (DJMPC), an annual photography competition. The finest photos of this year's competition are displayed at the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Cultural Centre on Avinashi Road in the city for public viewing until August 4 (from 10.30 am to 6 pm).Dilip Shah of Mumbai won the first prize for his photo titled "Flamingos in Fairy Land" in the Naturescapes category. Ganapathi Ram RS of Chennai bagged the second prize in the same category for his photo titled "On its Throne."

In the Wild Portraits category, Mahesh K of Kayankulam in Kerala won the first prize for his photo titled "Wait," and the second prize went to "Parenting Goals" by Thomas Vijayan from Canada.The recipients of the respective prizes were honoured by Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, chairman & managing director of LMW, in the presence of K Maruthachalam, the mentor for the contest, and Vikram Sathyanathan, the curator.DJMPC 2024 received 6,464 images (3,032 Naturescapes and 3,432 Wild Portraits) from 1,538 participants from 25 countries. DJMPC was instituted in 2012 in memory of D Jayavarthanavelu, the past chairman and managing director of LMW, who had a passion for photography.
