Unable to repay loan, TN man kills daughters and self

COIMBATORE: A man and his two daughters were found dead in a well near

district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday evening.

The deceased have been identified as R Jagan, 29, of Thuthikulam village his daughters J Tejasri, 4, and J Subasri, 2.

Jagan was residing with his wife Gayathri, 27, and his two daughters at Kasipalayam Colony in a rental house at Mudiganam in Karur district.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Jagan had borrowed lakhs of rupees from various people for doing a goat business. But he was not able to repay the loan amount. He was depressed and often told his wife Gayathri that he was not able to succeed in the goat business and could not repay the money he had borrowed.

On Thursday afternoon, Jagan took his two daughters to his native place -- Thuthikulam village near Vellakovil in Tirupur district -- where he met his sister. Later, he went to a farmland located near his sister’s house and pushed his two daughters into a well before jumping into it.

His wife tried to contact him on the mobile phone. As she did not get any response from him, Gayathri contacted her husband’s relatives over the phone.

The family members and relatives started to search for Jagan and his two daughters. They found the trio dead in the well and alerted the Vellakovil police.

A team of police rushed to the spot. Due to poor visibility, the police were not able to retrieve the dead bodies. With the help of the fire and rescue services personnel, they retrieved the dead bodies on Friday morning. The bodies were sent to the Kangeyam Government Hospital for postmortem.

The police registered a case.
