Two held for murdering bar supplier in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Two men were arrested for murdering a bar supplier during a drunken brawl inside a Tasmac bar on Variety Hall Road in the city on Sunday.The arrested have been identified as Prabhu, 27, of Idayar Street, and Manoj, 28, of Telugu Street. Police said the deceased, Sundararaj, 60, from Pudukottai, was working as a supplier at a Tasmac (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited) bar in the city. The accused visited the bar on Sunday afternoon and were consuming alcohol. They subsequently got into a verbal altercation with Sundararaj, alleging that the dish he served was not good. Following this, a heated argument broke out between them, and the duo pushed and punched Sundararaj in the chest. He fell unconscious and was rushed to Coimbatore medical college hospital. However, doctors declared him dead.On being alerted, Variety Hall police reached the spot, and secured the duo. Deputy commissioner of police G Karthikeyan visited the spot, even as further investigation is on.
