COIMBATORE: Fire and rescue services personnel on Friday rescued a kitten that had been stranded on top of a 60-foot-tall coconut tree near Karumathampatti in Coimbatore district for the past three days. The six-month-old kitten climbed the coconut tree near the Kaniyur panchayat office after a dog had chased it. Locals who saw the kitten thought that it would come down on its own (Some might have even said “Thambi keezhe iranghu,” as actor-turned-politician Vijay said to a youth who climbed a pole in Erode recently).

However, three days later, when they saw the kitten still on the tree, the locals informed fire and rescue services personnel in Karumathampatti, who arrived at the scene and rescued the cat after an hour’s effort. They used a snake-catching device to safely place the kitten in a bucket and bring it down.
