Supply water round the clock: MLA
Coimbatore: The city corporation should supply drinking water round-the-clock to the public,
Most of the wards in the city limit are receiving drinking water only once in 15 to 20 days, the MLA said in a petition to corporation deputy commissioner Prasanna Ramasamy. “The city has been witnessing severe water shortage. Most of the areas in the city limit including Singanallur, Masakalipalayam and Peelamedu are receiving water once in 15 to 20 days. It is only because of the irresponsibility of the corporation,” he said.
Meanwhile, residents of Thiruvalluvar Nagar in Nanjundapuram village demanded uninterrupted water and said that they are receiving water only once in 15 to 20 days for the last two months.
“Most of us are either farmers or labourers. If the government supplies water only once in a month, how would we manage it?” a resident asked. “A segment of residents, who resides on the upper surface of the land, don’t receive drinking water. They are forced to walk for long distances to fetch water from other pipelines,” he said.
As no household drinking water connection were given, all residents dependent on public taps, said A Kumarasamy, a resident and a former councillor. “A 1.30lakh-litre sump was constructed to supply drinking water to the village. But it is yet to be inaugurated.”
Corporation officials promised to look into the issue.
