Namakkal: Relatives of a sanitation worker who died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle blocked the Kokkarayanpettai-Tiruchengode road in Namakkal district on Monday morning, demanding information about the vehicle involved.K Geetha, 42, hailed from Ammachchipalayam in Namakkal district and worked as the sanitary worker in Kokkarayanpettai panchayat. She was hit near her house and died on the spot, while she was heading for her work.Her relatives, who came to know about the incident, searched for her for a long time and found her body lying near a thorn bush by the roadside. They informed the Kokkarayanpettai police station.Police who arrived at the scene tried to seize the body and take it for an autopsy. But the relatives stopped them and blocked the road, demanding that the vehicle that hit her be traced. They said they would not allow the body to be taken until then. Police held talks with the relatives, who blocked the road for two hours. They assured for an action against the vehicle driver. Convinced over this, finally they withdrew their protest. The police sent the body to the government hospital in Tiruchengode for postmortem. A case was registered and further inquiry is on.
