COIMBATORE: A 26-year-old man died after the car he was driving veered off the road and plunged into a roadside pond near Kattanchimalai in Coimbatore district on Saturday morning.
The deceased has been identified as T Harish of Kooranur in Kemmarampalayam near Karamadai. He worked at a private jewellery unit in Rakkipalayam Pirivu.
Police said the
accident took place around 7am when Harish was driving a relative’s car to work. While negotiating a curve at Kanuvaipalayam, he lost control of the vehicle. The car skidded off the road and fell into a deep pond inside a private grove.
Locals alerted the Karamadai police, who rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. A crane was used to pull the submerged car from the pond. Harish was found dead in the car.
Police informed his parents and sent the body to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for postmortem. It was handed over to the family on Saturday evening after postmortem.
The Karamadai police registered a case.
