Coimbatore district administration locks and seals crusher unit near Pollachi

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore district administration has locked and sealed a private illegal quarry crusher unit at Thalakkarai near Pollachi.

The private company operated a licensed crusher unit with various violations and was also operating an additional crusher and an additional quarry illegally in the same area. Sources said diesel generators had been used to run the illegal crusher.

Based on a case filed against Reshma Quarry at the National Green Tribunal, the Tamil Nadu pollution control board disconnected power supply to the crusher unit. Based on the recommendation made before the coordination committee, the district collector approved the closure. On Dec 13, the entire site was locked and sealed.

In a report presented before the NGT south zone on Oct 27, the TNPCB had listed a series of violations, which also mentioned that a penalty of Rs 4,70,000 had been imposed which had not been paid.
