Namakkal: A Class III Muslim girl from Salem climbed 1,300 steps to the Arthanareeswarar hill temple in Tiruchengode here on Saturday by performing yoga asanas on each step.
Hana, daughter of Zubair Ahmed-Athiya Banu couple from Shevapet area in Salem, started climbing steps at the foothills of the mountain temple at 6.45am and reached the 1,300th step around10.30am by performing different yoga asanas, including ‘viruchakasana', ‘garudasana', ‘poorana dhanurasana', ‘chakrasana', ‘ninthana pada asana', ‘veerasana', ‘ardha kona asana' and ‘ardhi salapasana', on each step.
The Class III girl of Sri Vasavi Matriculation School in Salem said her intention was to promote yoga among students. The girl studied yoga at Sivaguru Yogasana Salai in Salem under the guidance of a teacher named Murali.
Hana said she had been practicing yoga for the past few years. "I will continue my efforts to promote yoga and try to set a record while doing so."
Hana was accompanied by her yoga teacher, her parents and Shevapet councillor Jayakumar.
