A senior engineer from the WRD stated that rainfall had been recorded in the reservoir's catchment areas since the previous day, resulting in an inflow of 1,500 cusecs of water.

Additionally, 2,000 cusecs of water released from the Ammapalli Reservoir in Andhra Pradesh also flowed into Poondi's catchment areas.

The total inflow to the Poondi Reservoir on Thursday was 3,500 cusecs, of which 1,000 cusecs were released, the official said.

The Tiruvallur district administration has issued a general alert to people living on the banks of the Kosasthalayar River and in low-lying areas along its course, advising them to remain vigilant.
