MADURAI: Tamil Maanila Congress (M) president G K Vasan on Monday urged the state government to provide security to the family of agriculture department executive engineer S Muthukumarasamy who committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at Palayamkottai on February 20.
Muthukumarasamy took the extreme step as he was allegedly under pressure from former agriculture minister ‘Agri’ S S Krishnamoorthy’s office in connection with the appointment of drivers.
A day after the arrest of Krishnamoorthy in connection with the case, Vasan urged the state government not to intervene in the police inquiry into the case.
Vasan, who came to here to attending a marriage, urged the central government to protect the interests of the
Tamil Nadu fishermen. “Though there have been talks between Sri Lanka and India, the Sri Lankan government is denying the rights of the Tamil Nadu fishermen. Hence, the Indian government should take a stubborn stand and ensure that our fishermen are not detained in the island nation,” he said.
The former Union minister refused to comment on Congress vice-president
Rahul Gandhi’s continuous absence in the political scenario.
